History of the Millennium Scholars Program

research poster displayThe inaugural cohort of the Millennium Scholars began its studies in 2013. The Penn State Millennium Scholars Program is modeled after the Meyerhoff Scholars Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), which has prepared students from diverse backgrounds for successful transitions to the top graduate programs in science and engineering.

Like the Meyerhoff program, the Millennium Scholars Program is much more than a scholarship. It is an experience designed to produce cohorts of STEM Scholars who have internalized the program’s core values and equipped themselves to be compassionate leaders needed to change the face of STEM in the United States and reinvigorate interest in STEM fields for decades to come.
